Since April, several classes from Ivan Horváth High School in Bratislava have been working with the comic books and pedagogical materials developed within the EduLand project to complement their History and English lessons.
As part of the experimentation phase, teachers have been using excerpts from The Adventures of Milan Rastislav Štefánik, alongside the project's exercises, quizzes and video capsules, to explore topics related to European history, languages and cultural diversity.
The classroom activities have also provided an opportunity to integrate the materials into CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) and Guided Reading approaches. These methods encourage students to engage with historical content through a foreign language while developing reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. Several lesson plans are now available in the "Methodology" section of the website.
At the same time, a parallel experimentation is taking place in France at Fidélis Middle School in Montreuil, where teachers and pupils are testing the French-language materials and exploring different ways of incorporating them into classroom practice.
This experimentation phase is an important step in the project, allowing teachers to provide feedback on the materials and identify possible improvements. It is also encouraging to see how the combination of history, language learning and comic books can support student engagement and create new opportunities for learning in the classroom.
